Engagement is a marketing tool that organizations use to reach new customers, and keep old customers interested and coming back. Engagement allows organizations and customers to interact in an informal environment while not having to be face-to-face. It focuses on building a relationship between the business and the customer rather than pushing sales. Interpersonal communication and engagement are similar in the sense that both involve 2 or more people conversing, but what separates the two is interpersonal communication does not focus on building relationships or maintaining constant contact.
3 Best Practices
- Identify your target audience and choose your platforms accordingly. Establish a brand before setting up in a social media community.
- Utilize social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest. Don't just make a post and forget about it. Join conversations, reply to comments, etc.
- Link multiple social media outlets through a common factor. When you write a post or upload a photo/video on one social network, reference it on another network. This will multiply your chances of more viewers seeing it.
